Wyoming seeks to reduce operational costs

Wyoming County officials have moved to consolidate the information technology and buildings and grounds departments at the Wyoming County Community Health System Wyoming County Community Health System Follow this company (WCCHS) to further stabilize finances.

Both departments will become part of the county’s operational responsibility, with the county IT director, Todd MacConnell, now overseeing the health system’s IT department; while the county assistant superintendent of buildings and grounds, Daryl Rogers, assuming a supervisory role for the health system.

A news release from the county cited ongoing state and national challenges that inhibit revenue growth for the county health system, one of the largest employers in the county.

Kaiser wins Pharmacy Quality Alliance award

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii has received an award from the Pharmacy Quality Alliance for its measures of medication safety.

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii was one of three health plans selected for the award, which recognizes the plans for gaining top ratings in medication safety in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Star Rating program, according to a statement.


UC nurses approve contract

Registered nurses at University of California hospitals and student health centers have ratified a new collective bargaining agreement that protects existing standards for nurses at a time when many public-sector employees are scaling back benefits.

The 26-month agreement between UC management and the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United took effect Friday and extends through June 30, 2013. It covers more than 11,000 nurses statewide, including 2,000 at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

Pay increases will average at least 11 percent over the life of the contract.
